For the World Cup 2023, this veteran all-rounder player of Bangladesh assigned to this Important responsibility.
Former Bangladesh captain and current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Khaled Mahmud has been appointed as the team director for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by the national selection committee.
Mahmood had earlier said that he was not ready to return as team director. He left this post after the home series against India. However, Mahmood confirmed to Cricbuzz on Tuesday that he could not turn down BCB President Nazmul Hasan’s offer.
Mahmood said, ‘Nazmul Hasan called me in the morning and said that he is putting my name in the team management list for the World Cup and I could not say no.’
Prior to this, Mahmood was part of Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s team management. Then Chandika became the head coach of Bangladesh for the first time. Mehmood and Chandika share a very good relationship.
For the World Cup 2023, this veteran all-rounder player of Bangladesh said that he is not sure about this.
Mehmood said that he is not sure whether he will be included in the selection process or not. When Mahmood became the team director in the ICC World T20 2021, he was adamant in the selection process and also had a dispute.
Mahmood, who had served as Bangladesh’s technical director, decided to resign from his post as he had no say in the planning and selection made by head coach Russell Domingo and others in the team management.
Then the BCCI decided to introduce split coaching and appointed Sreedharan Sriram as the coach in the T20 format. Mahmood then became part of the team management. Sriram focused on coaching in T20 Internationals while Russell Domingo took over the coaching responsibilities in Test and ODI cricket. Bangladesh will begin their campaign in the World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan on 7th October.
