The LaLiga match between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla was rescheduled until Sunday owing to “exceptional” torrential rain in the Spanish capital, with local authorities encouraging residents to stay at home.
Spain’s State Weather Agency (AEMET) issued a red signal, which means “extreme danger,” for the Madrid region, saying that 120 litres of water per square metre could fall in a 12-hour period.
The LaLiga match between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla has been postponed.
“Given the exceptional weather situation in Madrid, as a result of AEMET’s red alert warnings and the Madrid City Council’s recommendations, LALIGA, after analysing the situation and holding talks this morning with the President of the RFEF, the President of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, and the CEOs of Atletico de Madrid and Sevilla FC, has decided to postpone the match between Atletico de Madrid and Sevilla FC, which was originally scheduled for today at 18
“The new date and time of the match will be communicated to you shortly by LALIGA.”
AEMET predicted “extraordinary quantities” of rain, while Madrid City Council advised citizens to “remain in their homes.”
Catalonia and the Valencian Community have also been impacted.
