Taking strict action against Wrestling Federation of India, United World Wrestling has suspended the membership of Wrestling Federation of India.
India: United World Wrestling has canceled the membership of Indian Wrestling Federation (Wrestling Federation India) due to non-holding of elections on time. Even before this, United World Wrestling had warned the Wrestling Federation of India to hold elections on time. However, the Wrestling Federation of India did not conduct the elections in time. That’s why it is being said that this strict action has been taken by United World Wrestling. On May 30, United World Wrestling wrote a letter to the Wrestling Federation of India regarding holding elections in the next 45 days. Also, it was clearly said in this letter that if these elections are not held, your membership will be cancelled.
Members of the Wrestling Federation of India were suspended and an ad-hoc committee was formed after the Sports Ministry accused Brij Bhushan Singh of sexual harassment of wrestlers. Later former Jammu and Kashmir judge MM Kumar was also appointed as the returning officer for the wrestling association elections.
Why were the Wrestling Federation of India elections not held?
The elections to the Wrestling Federation of India were to be held on 11 July. But then the Assam Wrestling Association had moved the Assam High Court to stay the elections for its approval. After this the ad hoc committee approved the Assam Wrestling Federation. Therefore the election to be held on July 11 was cancelled. After this, Election Officer MM Kumar gave the date of 12 August. However, this time the Haryana Wrestling Federation filed a petition in the Haryana High Court in support of Deepender Hooda demanding a stay on the election. That’s why these elections were also canceled on 12th August.
Wrestling Federation of India was to hold elections on 15 seats.
These elections of the Wrestling Federation will be held for a total of 15 seats. Meanwhile, these elections were to be held on 12 August. For this, Sanjay Singh, a close aide of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, and four others had filled the application form for these elections. Also, these applications were sent to the Olympic Bhawan in Delhi. But these elections did not take place even on this day. Due to this United World Wrestling has canceled the membership of Wrestling Federation of India.
